How we created the Lyft Product Language attributes and component libraries

At the end of 2019, I helped move all of Lyft’s design system from Sketch to Figma. Ironically, this was one of the last projects I worked on prior to leaving Airbnb as well. What I learned from these two experiences helped me recognize some fundamental things that everyone should consider when designing a shared library in Figma, the design tool of choice at this time.

As a Product Designer, I’ve been able to collaborate and partner with many product teams. Typically, my support role is focused on ensuring that mockups are cleaned up and pixel-perfect before being given to product engineering. And as an added level of quality, I also assess any UI that can be swapped in for components that already exist in the Design System.
