That’s a great question, Laszlo. For clarity, are you referring to the Component Variable plugin that enables you to set variables and through a pop up window you’ll be able to change the content (a la Sketch)? It’s a very interesting idea and one that intrigues me.
With that said, that plugin didn’t exist when we migrated to Figma at the end of 2019 (the Plugin feature was still in Beta). So the way we set things up utilized what features were available along with balancing time and scope.
If I had a do-over now, I’d definitely strategize using Variants from the get go as well as the idea of component variables.
Not to be a cynic, but I’ve been burned by Sketch plugins that break every time Sketch updates their app, especially ones that promote efficiency (Sketch Runner, for example). And so, I’ve really prioritized in-app features alongside the work Alex did to create internal plugins for us. I’m sure it’s not the same and Figma plugins are more stable than my Sketch example but habits die hard.
Thanks for the comment and discussion!
